The Simple Things
This is a free time video I shot and edited of my son (and wife) on various backyard explorations. It serves as a reminder of the simple things in life that you should stop and enjoy (or stop, enjoy, and capture in my case).
I don’t normally post things like this, but this is an exception.
Dizzayyy.
Video: Pass the Bucket with Jeff Ament (Pearl Jam)
This is a beautifully shot and edited video using DSLR technology (much of the same stuff that I use at MDFilms).
For more information go to strongholdsociety.org or woundedkneeskateboards.netWhile achieving tremendous success in the music industry as the bassist and co-founder of Pearl Jam, Jeff Ament has made it a mission to pay it back as an activist, philanthropist, and skate park builder. Growing up with humble beginnings in rural Montana, Jeff witnessed not only the tranquility of rural life, but also the difficulties that can often accompany growing up in extremely isolated areas. Luckily, Jeff found skateboarding, fell in love with it, and discovered the self-confidence that it can inspire. Remembering his roots and the positive effects skateboarding can have on young people, Jeff currently helps build epic skate parks in some of the most rural and deprived areas in the west. His most recent venture on the impoverished Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota is maybe his most rewarding project to date.

Video: From Love to Bingo
To illustrate the power of the picture, Getty tells the story of life, from love to bingo as it were, using 873 images displayed in quick succession…
Researchers rooted through 5000 stock images to create this beautiful one minute film. It’s definitely the best use of stock images I’ve ever seen.
Steadicam- Larry McConkey
I ran across this awesome behind the scenes snippet from the filming of Hugo. The Steadicam op Larry McConkey mounted a GoPro to his rig, and captured a long single-take scene. It’s a masterclass in deceptively-simple, thoughtful Steadicam operating, and you can see the intricate level of blocking and planning that went into this 360-degree scene (watch the wall move so they can slide in behind the chair). Also keep an aye on the audio boom guy…he’s working his butt off as well. This sort of stuff is just inspiring filmmaking. Watch below.
Finished shot for reference:
To say that Larry McConkey is a “Master” Steadicam Operator does not do him justice. He is a Master’s Master and then some. Here is a short interview with him below:
